Movie rec: The Tunnel

I just watched an Australian horror mockumentary form 2011 called The Tunnel. I thought it was very atmospheric and creepy, definitely one of the best movies in this genre of horror. It didn’t have any of the usual annoyances that often plague these kind of movies e.g. why do they keep filming when their life is in danger? Disorienting shaky camera movement, bad acting etc.

The acting in The Tunnel was actually very good and the underground tunnel maze was a very eerie setting for a found-footage horror movie. The constant darkness felt very oppressing and the movie played well on the fear of the unknown that is hardwired into the human brain.

The scares were effective and hard to predict, which I liked. I’ve seen so many horror movies that it’s pretty hard to scare me anymore, but one scene in The Tunnel managed to make me jump so hard that my scalp was tingling :D
